Director of AI Governance - Individual Contributor

Director, AI Governance – Individual Contributor

AI is moving rapidly from experimentation into the heart of enterprise decision-making and operations. With that comes an important challenge: how do you enable innovation at pace while ensuring AI is safe, responsible, transparent and commercially sustainable?

This is an opportunity to play a key role in answering that question.
As Director, AI Governance, Risk & Economics, you will be the senior functional lead responsible for shaping and embedding the frameworks that enable AI to scale safely and effectively across the organisation.

This is a senior individual-contributor role with significant enterprise influence. You won't be managing a team; instead, you'll lead through expertise, influence and partnership, working across Technology, Data & AI, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Cyber, Finance and business leadership.

What you'll do You'll establish and evolve the organisation's approach to AI governance, risk and value, ensuring the right balance between innovation, control and commercial outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Lead the development and ongoing evolution of the AI governance framework, policies and standards.
  • Establish practical AI risk, assurance and control frameworks covering AI models, GenAI, agents and autonomous workflows.
  • Provide senior oversight of AI risk assessment, approval and assurance processes.
  • Shape and support AI governance forums and decision-making, including executive and AI Council activities.
  • Lead the development of AI economics, token economics and run-cost transparency, helping the organisation understand the true cost of AI at scale.
  • Establish frameworks for AI value measurement, benefit realisation and investment tracking.
  • Monitor emerging AI regulation, industry developments and leading practice, translating these into practical implications for the organisation.
  • Partner closely with Risk, Compliance, Legal and Cyber to embed effective AI controls and assurance.
  • Work with Finance, Technology and business leaders to connect AI investment with measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, helping teams navigate governance requirements without unnecessarily slowing innovation.
  • Champion a pragmatic, commercially minded approach to responsible AI adoption.
What you'll bring We're looking for someone who combines deep technology and governance expertise with strong commercial judgement and the ability to operate confidently at executive level.
You'll bring:
  • Extensive experience across technology, engineering, risk, governance or assurance in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Proven experience establishing or operating technology, digital, data or AI governance frameworks at scale.
  • Strong understanding of AI, GenAI, agentic systems and automated decision-making, including the risks and controls required to deploy them responsibly.
  • Experience assessing, governing or assuring AI solutions in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering, cloud platforms and technology delivery practices.
  • Experience developing or understanding AI economics, token costs, run costs or technology cost transparency.
  • Strong executive stakeholder management and the ability to influence without relying on formal authority.
  • The ability to translate complex technical, regulatory and risk considerations into clear, practical decisions for senior leaders.
  • A commercially minded approach, with the judgement to balance innovation, risk and value.
  • A strong understanding of the evolving AI regulatory and responsible-AI landscape.
Why this role? This is a chance to shape something that is still being defined.
AI governance is evolving rapidly, and this role will have the opportunity to establish the frameworks, standards and commercial disciplines that will influence how AI is adopted across the organisation.
You'll work at the intersection of AI, technology, risk, regulation and commercial value, partnering with senior leaders across the enterprise and helping turn responsible AI from a set of principles into practical ways of working.

For someone who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing at the highest levels and building frameworks that enable rather than restrict innovation, this is an opportunity to have genuine enterprise-wide impact.

The opportunity If you're an experienced technology, AI, risk or governance leader who wants to shape how organisations adopt AI safely, responsibly and commercially, we'd love to hear from you.
